I drove to Toronto from Cleveland, Ohio so the drive was roughly five hours. To maximize your time in Toronto, I recommend buying a CityPass. Its one flat price and it gets you entry to major city attractions such as the Zoo, CN Tower, and Aquarium. The CN Tower is located directly next to the Aquarium so we did both of these attractions first. After the aquarium we decided to walk and explore the city's different neighborhoods on our own via walking. To save money, our hotel was outside city limits and the price was dramatically cheaper. The next morning we left very early for our drive back to North Carolina, but I had a planned pitstop in Niagara Falls.
Driving from Toronto to North Carolina you pass directly through Niagara Falls, so it was perfect for a small pitstop. The Canada side of Niagara Falls offers better views than the New York side, so make sure you cross the border for the best sights. My friends and I started the day with a breakfast buffet, then walked to the falls. At the falls we spent some time walking to different viewpoints around the area to see the falls from different angles. After we got our fix, we headed back to the car to continue our long drive to Charlotte, North Carolina.
